Time for the 0.8.12 build. Simon, please temporarily back-out/disable the unicode changes (or Roger can do that also?) for this build. Roger, whenever Simon's done & you're ready.

BTW this backing out stuff at the last moment is a really bad
idea. It puts us back to a codebase that noone has actually
run before the build. In general things on the trunk should
be finishable before the build (or at least do no harm to
it). Alternatively branches can be used for more invasive
stuff.

Thanks Roger and completely agree. We should plan the builds better and be more disciplined about committing evasive changes to the main trunk. Unless there're major issues with this build, the next build is planned for 2 weeks from Monday.
