[BitPim-devel] Looking for Sanyo SCP-3200, Katana DLX, S1 or SCP-8400 owners

Because of a recent donation of an Sanyo SCP-7050, we were able to add
support for this phone. As contemporaneous Sanyo phones often have
similar protocols, it is possible that other recent Sanyo phones will
share the same protocol as the 7050. I would appreciate it if owners
or the 3200, DLX, S1 or 8400's could try reading their phone books and
report their results here. (I don't suggest trying to write to the
phonebook.)

Use the latest BitPim test release, 1.0.4.20071230, and set the phone
model to SCP-7050 rather than trying to let BitPim detect the phone.
Windows users can get drivers from Sprint: Go to
http://www4.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/support/downloads/items.jsp and
download the "Sprint PCS Connection Manager for Phone as Modem/USB
Cables".

Stephen did you get the info I sent on the Katana DLX SCP-8500 - I sent
some source with which I was able to write data to the phone images
directory. I also sent some info on the initial layout of the phone with
formats for images, phonebook entries, ringtones and folder formats,
settings, lengths and so forth...I borrowed from your work on 6500 and
8400 series to do it, unfortunately I got tied up in some other projects
and have not had a chance to get back into it. I will test what you have
on the DLX..

Yes I got the 8500 code. I'll try to check it in soon so that you can
test it. If you try reading the phonebook on the DLX using the
SCP-7050, send me the protocol log whether or not it works.

The Phonebook retrieval for Katana DLX SCP-8500 using the 7050 system did not work. Log files are below. I used win XP SP2 , IE7 Installed, Used both a direct cable and bluetooth to try to connect via Modem connection. I will try the Diag connection when I REBOOT...
I read on a website that Qualcomm has "test phones built around its chips, and also that there was a site setup with "test phones" for tryout - I wonder if either of these two solutions would be benfecial in writing phone support..

I am not the best coder in the world, and python well it is really new to me.. and my ide does not have intellisense either..but I did the best I could with your original files, and I was able to grab media images from the camera.. with more work I think it can even get audio.
Most of the file system looked structured. If you need more info let me know - I will do all I can to help time permitting. As you see it is 4 AM on a SATURDAY.. I am burning the candles in the fire.. so time is a valuable commodity along with sleep..

Phonebook reading needs to use the diagnostic port. It should be the
same port that you are able to read images from the phone with.

You can read the phones filesystem with BitPim? The filesystem has
not been available on most recent Sanyo phones. Could you send me a
zip file of the filesystem. (Don't post it, just email me directly.)

I hope I am not asking the wrong question but I have been trying to get
information on the Katana Dlx for weeks and do not seem to be finding any
answers. I have always used my cell phone as a modem for my laptop. Well,
I just got the Katana Dlx and I can not get it to do anything. I have tried
DataPilot and I can't even get it to send pictures to the phone. I am ready
to take this phone back and return to using my Sanyo 8200. I am not an
expert on coding but can get by if someone can help me. Any suggestions or
assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have the same phone as you , I was able to get the images from the
camera -using some code I modifed (borrowed from Stephen Wood)
I basically added some info, and set some parameters for it. My 4900 was
great - this Katana DLX phone is SO LOCKED down it blows golf balls...

I am not a python guy, or an expert programmer - I know a few things here
and there - perhaps we could work a bit together on it. I have a tool to
look at some info - but need to get the MLS for my phone in order to take a
closer look - I can see the NV area of the phone and it looks like the
embedded file system is really a .mbn file.

What I think we should do - is start off with a feature support list, with
fields and byte lengths.. etc..
I think this phone must be using a db engine of some sort to manage its
information - ie the phone book - I dont think it is a flatfile in reality -
but I could be wrong..

Would you like the files I modified - you would need to run it from source
or compile on your machine...

You need th SYS03 Driver set which has both modem and diagnostic port..
