I am moving this discussion over to devel as it seems more relevant
here.
Ok I did a little more testing and I was able to come up with the
According to the Sanyo SCP-5300 User's Guide
(http://www1.sprintpcs.com/media/Assets/Equipment/Handsets/pdf/
sanyoscp5300.pdf), the phone will take up to 6 ringers that are a
maximum of 20 KB. It will also take 1 ringer that is from 20 KB to 100
KB.
Could you send me one of your larger ringer files.
I was able to successfully transfer both kinds of files to the phone
when there were slots open. When the slots were filled up, I would get
the respective errors.
I also get a limit of 6 ringers and 11 pictures on the 4900.
I also wanted to clarify the situation with the alert dialog box.
Apparently, if you press ok on the dialog box before or during the
download screen shows on the phone, the transfer may or may not start.
Usually it does start, but then will make BitPim hang halfway during
the transfer and finally segfault. This is repeatable for both sizes of
midi files. On the other hand, the good news is that if you are in PC
Sync mode before the alert dialog box appears (even before you start
BitPim itself), the phone will transfer the ringers fine.
I'll experiment with this myself tonight. I wonder if it is a mac
specific issue.

Do you think it would be better if the driver wait until OK is clicked
before proceeding to try the file transfer?
Obviously this
is why my earlier transfer of my 5500 camera image failed and caused an
exception. Finally, the maximum image size for the SCP-5300 is 132x144
pixels (not including the two rows of icons at the top - this area
can't be used anyways), so we should be able to change this in the
future.
I think the camera image also failed because it was jpg not png.

I'll put that image size in for the 5300.

Do you still have an SCP-6000 and a data cable. Would you be willing to
try reading the phonebook from it using the 4900 setting?

I will send it to you in a separate email.

That's good. It probably means that all the phones that came around
that generation should have similar specs: 4900, 5300, and possibly the
6400.

It might be a Mac specific issue, but I think more than likely it is
not. The issue with the progress bar might be related to the Mac
though. If I get a chance, I will try to run it from a CVS build on a
Windows machine.

It probably would make sense for the driver to wait until OK is
clicked, but you should change the message in such a way that it
indicates it is waiting for the phone to be in PC Sync Mode first.
i.e.: "Please place your phone in PC Sync Mode. After you have done
this, you may press OK to start the transfer." Otherwise it might be
ambiguous (maybe to just me?) that the program is waiting for the
phone. If that little bit of extra text is added it would make it clear
what is the next step.

I believe you are right. The jpg probably caused the error, but there
is also the 16 KB file size limit imposed by the phone as well. You may
have to check for both?

Thanks. The phone is able to take smaller sizes, but I suppose
eventually in BitPim, we'll have the option to resize the picture to
the maximum supported dimensions of the phone? I saw this discussed in
another thread.

Unfortunately, I sold my SCP-6000 in January when I bought the
SCP-5500. I did try using it with BitPim, but it was not able to get it
to work at the time (not to mention that the battery life was very
low). It is an older phone that doesn't support Vision and also uses a
straight serial cable. If I recall correctly, the 6000 only had
Wireless Web; the 6200 had support for "Ringers and More" (I believe
this service has been discontinued); and the 6400 had full support for
Vision. Therefore I believe it should be trivial to add support for the
6400, as it seems very similar to the 4900. On the other hand, the 6000
and 6200 were older 2G phones and might pose a little more of a
challenge to adapt them. In any case, all 3 models use the same data
cable.

There are plenty of these phones being sold on eBay and go for pretty
cheap. I should have just donated my phone to BitPim since I had the
data cable anyways. Sorry about that. I suppose if someone is dying for
support, they could purchase one from eBay and donate it for
development purposes.
