[BitPim-devel] lg pm325 not available in .8.08 devel build executable

I was looking in the cvs repository and noticed that there is a class/object (not familiar with python lingo) com_lgpm325. However, I also noticed that it is not an valid option to select in the binary executable for windows. Was something missed in the latest build? I checked the cvs version and noticed that the most recent update was for 8.07 for that file. I am also a developer by trade and would be more then happy to contribute to this phone for bitpim since I own it and enjoy picking up new technologies and contributing to theOpen Source Community. -- I code Java/J2ee and UNIX shell mostly, so I think I can pick up python.

Thanks

Doug

The pm325 is not in the release build. It needs some work, I know from
working on the pm225 that it is buggy.
Goto http://bitpim.org/developer.html for instructions about getting a
development environment set up, follow the instructions carefully.

class/object (not familiar with python lingo) com_lgpm325.
In this case the terminology is 'module'. (A single file is a module
and can contain any number of classes. A collection of files in a
directory is a package.)

Nope. Look for ConfigDialog in guiwidgets and you'll see the answer.

You'll have no problem picking up Python. You'll need look in the
dev-doc directory however to see how the BitPim code is structured
and what bits of code do what.

Does anyone know if Bruce, I think was his name, get back to bitpim
with a working address book? Or was that the last thing he was doing
on the 325 code?

Hey Everyone,
I am the original developer of the PM325 code. I got it working for my
needs and asked for testing help and feedback. After receiving nothing, I
stopped working on the code.
If you have feedbackor can point out any of the bugs, I would be more then
willing to resume working on and updating the code. Of course, any coding
help is also appreciated! :)

Brent,

I worked on the pm225 support, from looking at the phonebook work you did I
think the phones are very similar.
I'd be happy to work with you on completing the 325 support.

The problem I noticed was with the speed dials, the 225 speedials (and it
appears the 325 from the code) are in the phonebook packet from the phone,
they do not have to be read from a separate file like other LG phones. The
325 code still tries to update this file when writing to the phone.

Have a look at the 225 code and see how well it fits the 325. Ringer and
wallpaper assignments did not work via the phonebook packets, is the same
true of the 325? If the phones are very similar it is worth sharing the code
between the phone modules.

If you tell me the right way to back up my phone (just copy the file
system?) I can test/verify whatever you need on my phone tonight or
tomorrow night if you want.

Jerad
I would say that the phonebook reading is ready to go. There are a couple
of flags that I have not figured out, but 99% of the data is figured out.
Phonebook writing is working fine on my phone. In the past, one person
reported problems with writing to their phone. I never did receive the
details and have not made any changes. I would like to have more testing
done on this before making it available in the offical release.
No other support is complete at this time.
Brent

I have moved the LG-PM325 from the debug phone list to the supported list in
guiwidgets.py so that it will get included in the next release. Right now,
phonebook reading and writing are included, but we can take out the writing
before the build if you feel it is not ready.

Brent,

I was the one who reported phonebook problems on the pm-325. I sent you
an email on 12/28 with the log file and some more details (to a msn.com
email address). I guess you didn't get it. Is there another email
address I should use?

Based on my experience I would not do that. Using the latest developer
code my phonebook was corruputed when using the PM-325 with BitPim. I
think we still need to do some work on it. I'm willing to be a guinea
pig but I'm not much of a developer.

I agree with Phil. I do not want to release "Writing" of the phonebook
until we have finished further testing. I will work on it this weekend. If
anyone want's to test and give me feedback before then, I would appreciate
it.

The only problem that I have personally encountered was that occasionally
the phone needed to be power cycled after writing the phonebook. For some
reason, the records would not display correctly until after the reboot.

As far as backing up the phone before testing, I would recommend backing up
the entire filesystem so that it can be restored if there is a problem
writing the phonebook.

Based on my experience I would not do that. Using the latest developer code
my phonebook was corruputed when using the PM-325 with BitPim. I think we
still need to do some work on it. I'm willing to be a guinea pig but I'm not
much of a developer.

I have moved the LG-PM325 from the debug phone list to the supported list in
guiwidgets.py so that it will get included in the next release. Right now,
phonebook reading and writing are included, but we can take out the writing
before the build if you feel it is not ready.

details and have not made any changes. I would like to have more testing
done on this before making it available in the offical release.

What capabilities (phone book read, write, calendar, ...) would you feel
comfortable including in the next official release?

I agree with Phil. I do not want to release "Writing" of the phonebook
until we have finished further testing. I will work on it this weekend. If
anyone want's to test and give me feedback before then, I would appreciate
it.
I'll disable the write part before the build, unless there is a consensus
that it is ready.

The only problem that I have personally encountered was that occasionally

the phone needed to be power cycled after writing the phonebook. For some
reason, the records would not display correctly until after the reboot.
Most phones require a reboot after writing the phonebook. This is done by
putting data["rebootphone"]=True in savephonebook. The PM325 code looks
like it does not under certain conditions. Perhaps it should be change to
always reboot after a phonebook write.

Brent,

Have a look at the phonebook code for the pm225, this
is similar to the pm325, you might be able to find the
differences. Speeddials, ringer and wallpaper
assignments were not easy to get working on this
phone.

As far as backing up the phone before testing, I
would recommend backing up
the entire filesystem so that it can be restored if
there is a problem
writing the phonebook.
