I have started testing the newly released LG VX5400 with Bitpim
(1.0.2) using Phone Type LG-VX8550.
If the changes are minor and/or cosmetic, I could add this model into the next test release and let users try it out (understanding that the code has not been verified).

Joe, I have tested all of the available Bitpim features for the VX5400 using LG-VX8550. No error exceptions
are raised except in the case of Memos (Notes). I see that Nathan Hjelm has a memo patch for the VX8550
pending, and I will test the VX5400 with that build when it becomes available.

The only other problems I could find with using the VX8550 for the VX5400 are with the Phonebook wallpaper
and ringtone. The contact ringtone issue appears to be easily correctable (see below) and/or avoidable.
The contact wallpaper issue appears to be one that will require additional testing and troubleshooting.

I have tested with the LG-VX8550 setting fairly extensively (with Bluetooth -- I have a USB cable on the way).
If you want my opinion, I'd say make the LG-VX8550 code available (with or without minor modifications to the
Image editor -- see below) to be chosen as LG-VX5400 with the caveat that users change contact wallpaper
(picture id) within the phone instead of through Bitpim.

My testing notes follow below.

Ron

===============

LG VX5400 tested with Bitpim version 1.0.2 using LX-VX8550 setting
Connected via Bluetooth USB dongle, serial port service

Tested Phonebook
All of the available parameters for contact entry are correctly sent and received, except for wallpapers
(picture id) and ringtones (ringer id).

The only problem with a contact ringtone is when No Ring is selected in either the phone or in Bitpim.
On the VX5400, there is a Ringtone 12 which does not appear in the Ringtones drop down list in Bitpim
for the VX8550 (only goes up to Ringtone 11). Apparently, this may be messing up some type of indexing
when selecting No Ring in Bitpim and then resending the phonebook -- on the phone, Ringtone 12 will be
selected instead of No Ring (on the phone's ringtone list, No Ring follows Ringtone 12). This only happens
when selecting No Ring in Bitpim.

In reverse, if No Ring is selected on the phone for a contact, there will be no retrieved ringtone in
Bitpim. But if the phonebook is resent (and replaced) to the phone, the contact's ringtone on the phone
(which was previously No Ring) will be changed to the Default [ringtone].

If Ringtone 12 were added (or retrieved programmatically) to the Bitpim ringtone drop down list, that may correct
the apparent indexing problem.

With wallpaper (or picture id on the phone), if a new contact is created with wallpaper in Bitpim and the
phonebook is sent to the phone, there will be no wallpaper (picture id) listed in the phone for the
contact. For existing contacts in the phone, changing (or removing) the wallpaper in Bitpim and resending
the phonebook to the phone will not change (nor remove) the contact's wallpaper (picture id). It would
be nice to be able to remove a contact's picture id within the VX5400, but I haven't found a way to do
that. Once a picture id is set in the phone, it can only be changed, not removed.

If a wallpaper (picture id) is selected for a contact on the phone and then the phonebook is retrieved to
Bitpim, Bitpim will default to the 1st wallpaper listed in the phone. This appears to be an indexing
problem, but I have not checked the log information to see what is happening.

Tested Media/Images
Tested sending and receiving. Works OK. The VX5400 will resize images to fit.

Main wallpaper is 128w x 160h. To get this size, I switched temporarily to LG-VX6100, added a JPG using
FULLSCREEN (not wallpaper) which sized to 128 x 160, then switched back to LG-VX8550 to send the wallpaper.
This worked fine, so the code for the VX6100 FULLSCREEN editor could possibly be used to size the main
wallpaper.

The front wallpaper is 96w x 64h (w / h ratio = 1.5). To approximately get this ratio, I switched
temporarily to LG-VX9900, added a JPG using OUTSIDELCD (sized to 160 x 99, w / h ratio = 1.6), then
switched back to LG-VX8550 to send the wallpaper. The phone will size the wallpaper to fit and will
maintain the w / h ratio (with a 1.6 ratio, a few pixel rows on the top and bottom are empty on the front
screen). Picture ID is on the main screen, miniaturized and sized to fit. I'm not sure of the exact pixel
dimensions (appears to be about 50w x 33h) It appears that a 1.5 w / h ratio is the best size for
picture id, so a selection of OUTSIDELCD could be used for both the front wallpaper and the picture id.

Tested Media/Sounds
Tested sending and receiving midi files. Works OK.

Tested Media/Ringers
Tested sending and receiving. Works OK.
Tested with mp3 ([16kbps 16khz] or [32kbps 16khz], both mono).

Tested Memo (Notes)
Sending a memo will not generate an error, but the text of the note on the phone is not correct.
I will retest on the next Bitpim build that includes the memo patch for the VX8550.
Receiving memos will generate an exception error if there are any Notes in the phone.

Tested Calendar
Tested data sending and receiving. Works OK.

Tested T9 Editor
Tested data sending. Tested on the phone in Word mode. Uploaded data recognized.
