[BitPim-devel] BitPim Today ?

Inspired by the Outlook and FMA Today looks. Is this something worth pursuing, or is it somewhat redundant? Some initial ideas:

Calendar: this week (Sun through Sat) events.
Todo List: items due this week.
Others: Top, most recent 5 items.

I always intended to have one. In fact the aggregatedisplay
control was specifically written for this. You can have a number of
sections (you have one - BitPim Today), and each section has a number
of items (you have calendar, todo list etc). The control will automatically
make them go onto multiple lines, deal with scrolling and a whole bunch
of other stuff.

So go ahead and pursue this, but please use the control that was
intended for it.

For the sections you can do Today, This Week, Next Week, Next Month,
last Week, Last Month, Last 6 months and leave out the ones that
have no data. You could even add in points when phones were
synced.

Something along this line (attached screen shot)?

Should this tab have any links to the other tabs?

Data Processing:

Today - Calendar: today events, Todo: Items due today, Others: top/most recent 5 items.

This week - Calendar: this week (Sun-Sat) events, Todo: items due this week.

etc.

Yes, that is the idea. However, don't use listboxes or whatever they
are. Don't bother with an item unless it has content, and just draw
the content as text. If it is longer than some amount (eg 10 lines)
then make the 10th line say something like "...and another 7 calls..."

The idea is that it is a summary screen, and hence should be easy to
take in quickly. We also want to avoid multiple scrollbars on the page
since that looks ugly and is user hostile.

To a first approximation, you can make it so that clicking on an item
changes to that tab.

And if you really want to go for it, you can also add a watermark to
the page like the wallpaper and ringtones have :-)

I don't have any preferences, so plain text would be ok with me. Except for the scrolled bar, what are your objections to the listboxes?

I'd love to but I don't know of and don't have any bitmaps handy. I'll put it on if someone can provide one.

This is a summary page where you can see everything as concisely as
possible. It is supposed to look pretty - listboxes don't!

Have a look at the screenshot on this page:

That is what I am aiming for :-)
