Hi all,
I'm afraid that I'll need a little hand holding whilst I get my head around how BitPim code works, but hopefully I can get there fairly quickly.

I have a SCH-A650 (Telus) which does not enter 'brew' mode, the reason is that the data packet sent back after the request does not pass the CRC test.

I understand from Roger that this is probably because this phone has firmware based on J2ME, rather than Brew.

Looking at the code (with glazed eyes) I can't really see:

1). Whether there are any other phones that work with BitPim, but don't use Brew.

2). Whether it is necessary to enter 'brew' mode to get/set address/calendar entries.

Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Simon.

Yes, the Samsung SCH-A310 does just that: its Diagnostic Mode (DM) is broken.
2). Whether it is necessary to enter 'brew' mode to get/set >address/calendar entries.
For get/set calendar entries: No. For phonebook entries: no with a limitation (at least with the Verizon one): you won't be able to get/set uploaded-ringer ID assignments. In other words, if you upload a ringtone to your phone and assign it to one or more phonebook entries, BITPM won't be able to maitain that information (it works fine with builtin ringtones). Who knows, the Telus ones may not have that limiation. Furthermore, you won't be able to upload/download ringers or wallpapers to/from your phone using BITPIM w/o entering DM.

Yes, the Telus LG VX4600. It uses J2ME. The "brew" bit is misleading as I mentioned
in an earlier email. It should read "Qualcomm chipset diagnostics mode".
