Looking for a BitPim developer that can modify BitPim to write PRL
information on phones. Write me with your thoughts.
The philosophy all along in BitPim is that it is there to provide
you with the ability to transfer and modify *your* information.
Your contact lists, your ringtones, your images, calendar entries etc
are your property(@) and hence we aim to give full functionality
with them.

The PRL is the property of the phone company. It is how they
tell the phone to use the service they are providing. This is
a service you volunteered for and pay for each month. There
is no good reason for BitPim to modify this file. (If you have
technical issues with what PRLs the phone company gives you
then contact them, take them to court, drop their service etc).

(@) You will have seen this same discussion in the past over
games. There are a very small minority of developers who
need to get games on the phone but the carrier and handset
manufacturer only provided a cumbersome mechanism. However
we aren't in the business of making that easier. Then there
were a number of people who just wanted to steal games
because they felt they were too expensive etc. Although
BitPim is free software, we too depend on copyright laws to
maintain that freedom. Stealing other people's stuff is just
as abhorrent as stealing ours, no matter what you think of the
pricing structure.

Roger,
The intent of this project has nothing to do with games, and it is
perfectly legal. I can't give you the details of the project without an
NDA, but we need to be able to write PRL information to the phone, which we
already have. Do you think it is possible to do this with bitpim? There is
software out there, such as QPST that can perform the task, but we'd perfer
to create a more universal solution.

Thanks,

Dan
