[BitPim-devel] Newly released VX5400 appears to be similar to Bitpim's LG-VX8550

Hi. I have started testing the newly released LG VX5400 with Bitpim (1.0.2) using Phone Type LG-VX8550. The VX5400 has 37MB of memory (no SD), a VGA camera (no video), front and main wallpaper and picture id, supports mp3 ringtones, and Bluetooth 1.1. I connect using Bluetooth.

When getting data from the phone, all of the available sources are accurately retrieved, with the exception of Memo (Notes?) which generates an error (if there are no stored Notes, the error is not generated). When sending data to the phone, mp3's can be placed in Media/Ringers and will be successfully sent to the phone and will be available in the phone's Ringtone listing. For Images, the main wallpaper size of the VX5400 is 120 x 160, whereas the VX8550 apparently has a wallpaper size of 240 x 274. The VX5400 allows a front wallpaper and picture id's also, but I'm not sure about the sizes yet. Bitpim Media/Images appear in the phone's My Pictures listing (Get It Now/Pictures). Bitpim Media/Sounds appear in the phone's My Sounds listing (Get It Now/Tunes & Tones/).

Call History is retrieved correctly using LG-VX8550. I have not yet tested sending the PhoneBook or Calendar or Memo or T9 User DB. I have tested sending Wallpaper (sized wrong), Ringtone, and SMS.

In the Bitpim tree view for the LG-VX8550, the following branches are not (?) relevant to the VX5400:
Bitpim/Phone/
Media/Video(sd)
Media/Video
Media/Images(sd)
Media/Music(sd)
Media/Music
Media/Sounds(sd)
Todo (?)
Playlist

I'm not a developer, but I have done some programming. If any developer has a question about the VX5400, I will be glad to try to answer it.

How, If at all, does any of this apply to the LG-C110?? Just got this
phone and am at a loss to connect with it. (bluetooth or cable). Specs
are similar to the VX5400.

thanks Hal

Hal, I think your phone is GSM. Bitpim, as far as I know, only supports CDMA phones. Your phone is a replacement for the CG225.

There is GSM software available for data transfer, but I don't know what works. Here is a link to LG Phone Manager:

Bitpim works with GSM phones .. GSM stands for Global Standard Mobile , CDMA
Code Division Multiple Access, The file formats, and the location of the
data on the phone is what matters .. if you know how to read the file
system, and know where to place things in that file system - then it is easy
enough to do this or that.

Is it a USB cable ? If so you need a USB Driver for the phone.
I am not sure what provider you use - but you can usually D/L a driver for
the phone from your provider (or a software package for it from your
provider which comes with the driver - for example my sprint Katana Dlx - I
D/L 'd the sprint mobile software installed it and whalla the driver was
ALSO installed) cool beans...

Most of these phones are built on the same chipsets, for example LG and
Sanyo - use QualComm chips, and many CDMA phones use QualComm - and if you
look at those QualComm chip spec sheets YOU WILL SEE they have a BUILT in
GSM system (even though 1 phone might be CDMA, there is a GSM module built
right into the chip! Other phones might use other chips, but the underlying
command set to talk to the phones - usually follows a standard, and of
course there are propietary codes as well...
