[BitPim-devel] BitPim-devel Digest, Vol 24, Issue 1

Hello.

I have a question about permissions.

I plugged in a Verizon phone into Bitpim - it's a variant of the VX8500 called the MX8500 for a Latin America carrier.

The phone is successfully detected as 'Other CDMA' phone and I can see the entire file system but when I try to copy files from the photos folder (brew\16452\mp) I get 'access denied'.

What is actually happening here - are the permissions locked or can they be accessed through some other mechanism?

It's my understanding that the phone is initialized with Bitpim by sending a special handshake sequence which needs to be responded to in a specific way.

So my question is - what information needs to be obtained in order to bypass the access permissions problem? Is there a special init sequence?

Thanks in advance for any insight,

Paul.

Python 2.5.1, wxPython 2.8.7.1 (msw-unicode)
APSW 3.3.13-r1, SQLITE 3.5.4
Serial 1.31]

Phone sch-u740 (VZN)

Calendar successfully imported from outlook to Bitpim filtered to 30 days
(current date to 30 days out to limit data to less than 100 entrees) only
once. Several days later the import brought the entire calendar into Bitpim
Outlook calendar entrees starts in 2005 and has unending weekly repeats.

Phone failures (found so far): unable to edit calendar entries in by phone
(restarts); in calendar view monthly - background year reads 03 for March
08, 04 for April 08, 05 for May 08, and so on; Contact list loads very slow
(occurred just after the 6 years plus calendar loaded on my phone - calendar
consists of 50+ weekly reoccurring entrees)

No other failures so far. Phone system functions well.

Thank you in advance,
Craig Sabo

Your phone probably needs to be put into download mode before you can access those files. To set DM I would suggest trying to access the filesystem with the VX-8700 setting.

If it's a variant of the VX-8500, you might want to try setting BitPim to VX8500.
