Joe,

I have been working with Simon over the past few days working to get the
LG VX8300 calendar function working with BitPim. The new code that
works with the current calendar code is ready for the next build,
whenever that may be.

My question to you is thus: In the "to-do" documentation, you are
listed as the person who working on the "new calendar GUI and data
structure." Is that work complete, or is it in progress? If the
latter, I have some feedback I would like to give you from my work on
the VX8300.

Thanks!

Joe,

Since you asked..... ;-)

I noticed that the various phones fall into three categories (re:
calendars):
- Type I:
o Use one date - event date (event up to 24 hours).
o Use two times - event start and end times.
- Type II:
o Use two dates - event date (up to 24 hours) and "repeat until" date.
o Use two times - event start and end times.
- Type III:
o Use three dates - event start and end dates (allows more than 24
hours) and "repeat until" date.
o Use two times - event start and end times.

Currently, BitPim only supports Type I and II phones. I would like to
see Type III phones supported as well, as the newer LG phones (e.g.,
VX8300 and newer) will be of this type. Here are my recommendations:

Update the Calendar GUI:
- On the General tab, break the current "From" and "To" fields into
their respective "date" and "time" fields.
- For Type I and II phones, make the default "To: Date" a "false" field
(i.e., red); also, give this field a new name. Possibly set it equal to
the "From: Date" or leave it blank.
- For Type III phones, enable the "To: Date".
- On the Repeat tab, add a new field calling it "Repeat Until:".
- For Type II phones, use this field for the "end" date.

Oops.... The fifth/last bullet in the "Recommendations" should read:
- For Type II and III phones, use this field for the "end" date.

Can you provide some examples of type III events.

Joe,

Per your request:

Example 1:
9/15/2006 @ 2:00 PM through 9/17/2006 @ 5:00 PM - Gauley River Trip
Non-repeating
I leave town on 9/15 at 2:00 PM, returning to town on 9/17 at 5:00 PM.

Example 2:
9/22/2006 @ 5:00 PM through 9/24/2006 @ 10:00 PM - GauleyFest
Repeat yearly, fourth Friday of the month, until 9/23/2011
One very long party!

Example 3:
9/22/2006 @ 7:00 PM through 9/24/2006 @ 9:00 PM - Rosh Hashanah
Non-repeating

Are these basically events that span longer than 1 day?

Exactly!

The beauty of the way LG is now doing things is that not only can you
have the simplicity of a single day event, but also have a single,
continuous event which spans across multiple days.

The examples I showed actually spanned across three days: partially on
Day 1, all of Day 2, and partially on Day 3. If you looked at a
calendar program that actually blocked out the times, you would see
everything from the start on Day 1 to the end on Day 3 marked (including
all of Day 2).

Oh, I forgot to add, not only do you have these multiple day events, but
they, like their single day counterparts, can be repeatable, with the
exact same options.
